It is important you don’t turn it into a fanfest. We can’t make this all about looking backwards.

Moffat on not having any Classic Who Doctors on the 50th anniversary special. (X)

I’m not even that invested in DW, but now I’m mad for so many of its fans. I’m trying to liken it to what would happen if, say, he tried to pull this kind of shit with the Sherlock Holmes franchise and I just… I can’t imagine. It’s like the guy thinks everything that happened before his reign as show-runner didn’t count. I don’t understand how you make this kind of decision and still try to present yourself as someone who respects the history of the program you’re in charge of — the WHOLE history, not just the small corner of it you control. I know I whine a lot about Moffat but this kind of attitude is why I dislike the guy so much.

This is an anniversary of the entire show, not just the past ~8 years. This is a show spanning fifty years and he’s decided to focus on the most recent decade and few (cough most recently popular and therefore the most marketable cough) leading actors so as to not “look backwards” — this is a show about fucking time travel, it’s the most bullshit excuse to just do things your way and dismiss any criticism lobbed at you, I don’t.

I completely understand not wanting to cater to fans too much, because shows and writers that do this have a lot of problems in more ways than one, but I feel honestly with an anniversary, it should be different. An anniversary is about a good show and delivering to fans, a celebration. The fans are the reason this show even exists, why not cater to them just this one time, make them happy? Fans should walk away from a 50 year (FIFTY YEAR) anniversary feeling the full weight of the entire show, not just the 2005 reboot — it’s not a eight-year anniversary, come on. You can’t really get the full immensity of the weight of this show’s legacy with just two doctors. I know people are excited for Tennat to return, and I like Smith well enough myself, but… come on, two out of eleven and you want to call that a 50 year anniversary? I’m sure the actors will do just fine, but try a bit harder to pull your head out of your ass, Moffat, just try.
